Located in the City of Los Angeles community of Watts, the Jordan Downs housing project was originally built as semi-permanent housing for industry defense workers, and was transitioned to public housing in the 1950s. Working with the Housing Authority for the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), TRG led the public engagement effort aimed at rebuilding and rejuvenating this 100-acre site. Public involvement included motivating grassroots participation of nontraditional participants – particularly younger and Spanish-speaking stakeholders – to evaluate housing stock options, recreational space needs, and locations for new retail, entertainment, dining, employment, and education facilities.
