The Northeast Los Angeles Riverfront Collaborative (NELA RC) is an innovative, interdisciplinary partnership that aims to capture the energy of the Los Angeles River as a catalyst for implementing revitalization strategies and help Northeast Los Angeles communities to thrive. The five Northeast LA neighborhoods under study were Atwater Village, Elysian Valley, Cypress Park, Glassell Park and Lincoln Heights. The NELA RC process built upon the growing momentum efforts already underway to transform the River, and aimed to create a Riverfront District as a focal point of community revitalization, sustainable civic engagement, and economic growth for the entire city. The input gathered from public meetings will feed into a City of Los Angeles-sponsored District Vision Plan and Economic Development Implementation Strategy document. The Robert Group, as a sub-consultant to Mia Lehrer and Associates, led the outreach and public participation efforts for the series of Placemaking Workshops, NELA Bus Tour, and Open House. TRG coordinated logistics for seven community meetings, a bus tour of the five neighborhoods and a community Open House to gather feedback on the draft document. In the effort, TRG managed the project Facebook page, utilized EventBrite as an RSVP mechanism, and led a coordinated effort to engage area stakeholders such as business owners, neighborhood council and neighborhood watch members, residents, students and community organizations.
