City of Los Angeles: Planning Department

re:code LA

The City of Los Angeles recently initiated efforts to complete the first comprehensive revision of the City of Los Angeles Zoning Code since 1946. Dubbed re:code LA, this five-year initiative, under the Department of City Planning (DCP), aims to develop a modern and user-friendly Code to create livable communities, encourage sustainable development, and foster economic vitality. This robust, public outreach plan is paramount in developing a code that works efficiently for its end-users, both publicly and privately.

TRG is leading the outreach effort for this citywide project, which includes:

  • Conducting city-wide stakeholder “listening sessions” and community workshops
  • Convening focus groups and a Zoning Advisory Committee
  • Developing a publicity & public awareness plan
  • Managing the social and mainstream media campaign (http://recode.la).
  • Coordinating communications between working groups, 90 neighborhood councils, seven City Planning Regions, the City Planning Commission, the City Council, and at-large stakeholders.
